Estate Planning

After first providing for family and loved ones, your will or living trust can be a way to make a wonderful gift to the National Committee Foundation. You can make a real difference for future generations and help ensure that your children’s children will be provided for in their old age.

Supporting the National Committee Foundation Through Your Estate Planning

A gift made by will or living trust can be simple to arrange. Your attorney can add a provision when you make or update your will or trust. Your attorney can also prepare a simple amendment (called a codicil) to your current will. Gifts by wills and living trusts are popular because they are easy to arrange and may be changed at any time you choose.

Wills and Trusts:

Remainder Gift: Give part of the remainder, or residue, of your estate. This means giving from what remains after all other specific bequests to friends and loved ones are first taken care of. If anything remains, all or part can go to the National Committee.

Percentage Gift: Designate a percentage of your estate to the National Committee Foundation. This insures that your wishes will be followed proportionately as the value of your estate changes over time.

Specific amount: Leave the National Committee Foundation a specific dollar amount.

Information to take to your Advisor

The National Committee Foundation encourages you to provide the following suggested wording to your attorney to ensure that there are no misunderstandings:

After fulfilling all other specific provisions, I give, devise, and bequeath ________ % of the remainder of my estate or trust [or $______ if a specific amount] to the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare Foundation (Tax ID # 20-8742654), a not-for-profit organization incorporated in Washington, DC and presently having its offices at 111 K St. NE, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20002.

Retirement Plans and Life Insurance

A simple change of beneficiary form may be all that is required to give all or part of what remains in your accounts. As with a gift by will or revocable living trusts, such gifts can be arranged to occur only if loved ones predecease you, or in the event of other circumstances you specify.

Your retirement plan benefits advisor or your life insurance professional can also provide more details upon request.

Banks and Brokerage Accounts

One easy way to provide a gift to the National Committee is by naming it as a beneficiary for any funds that remain in a bank or brokerage account at your death. The gift is arranged by completing a simple P.O.D (Pay on Death) form for a bank account or a T.O.D (Transfer on Death) form for a broker account. Your bank branch officer or financial officer can assist you.
