“Just in time for Halloween, Social Security privatization is coming back from the dead. But unlike a zombie in a horror movie, this threat is real. In a debate on Monday, NH-01 Republican nominee Anthony DiLorenzo came out in support of privatizing Social Security. While DiLorenzo might be in favor of handing over Americans’ retirement security to Wall Street, voters feel differently. Americans overwhelmingly oppose privatizing Social Security, and for good reason. The last time there was an effort to privatize Social Security was in the George W. Bush Administration, a few years before an historic economic collapse. Thankfully, the privatizers failed back then. But unless New Hampshire sends Social Security champions like Stefany Shaheen to Congress, things could go very differently.
This election, Social Security is on the ballot. Soon the Social Security trust fund will run dry, resulting in a $553 a month cut to Social Security checks for New Hampshirites. Some politicians in Washington and their Wall Street backers want to use this crisis as an opportunity to privatize Social Security. Voters have a chance to stop this and protect the benefits that they have earned. Electing Stefany Shaheen on November 3rd will send a loud message to anyone who wants to privatize Social Security for the benefit of Wall Street: Social Security is not to be gambled with.” – Max Richtman, Member, NCPSSM PAC Board
