We are proud to announce that NCPSSM President and CEO Max Richtman has been selected as a member of the 2024 Democratic Platform Committee. One of the nation’s leading advocates on seniors’ issues, Richtman will be a voice for older Americans as the Democratic party forges its positions for this year’s election.
As a committee member, Richtman will urge his committee colleagues to ensure that the party platform affirms its commitments to the nation’s seniors. NCPSSM has officially endorsed President Biden, who promises to protect Americans’ earned benefits, vowing to stop anyone who tries to cut them. The President also has urged Congress to strengthen and expand Social Security and Medicare by demanding that the wealthy begin contributing their fair share — and he took on Big Pharma to lower seniors’ prescription drug costs. These are positions NCPSSM has long championed.
On behalf of our millions of members and supporters across the country, Max also will press the party to commit to a more accurate inflation formula for calculating Social Security COLAs. The current formula does not reflect seniors’ true expenses, especially when it comes to soaring health care costs.
This will be Richtman’s second time as a platform committee member, having first served in that role in 2016. He also is a vice-chair of the DNC’s Seniors Coordinating Council. Richtman has been President and CEO of NCPSSM since 2012 and is a former staff director of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging.
“Seniors contribute so much to our society and deserve to know that they can retire securely, with dignity. Older Americans vote more reliably than any other age group and they deserve to be heard. In such an enormously consequential election year, it’s important that seniors have a seat at the table. I could not be prouder to serve on the platform committee,” says Richtman.
