“On behalf of NCPSSM’s nearly 60,000 members and supporters in Texas, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare PAC endorses Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX-35) for U.S. Senate.  It has been more than 30 years since Texas has had a genuine defender of seniors’ earned benefits in the U.S. Senate. Colin Allred will be that Senator.

As a congressman, Colin Allred has earned a 100% lifetime rating on NCPSSM’s legislative scorecard.  Rep. Allred enthusiastically supported the Inflation Reduction Act, which already is lowering prescription drug prices for Texas seniors. He endorsed legislation that would boost Social Security — and has fought right-wing efforts to cut benefits, privatize Social Security, and turn Medicare into a voucher system.

Rep. Allred would be an immense improvement over his opponent, incumbent Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), who has falsely claimed that Social Security is a “Ponzi scheme.” Senator Cruz’s lifetime rating on our legislative scorecard barely breaks ZERO.  In defiance of Texas seniors’ best interests, Senator Cruz sided with Big Pharma and voted against the Inflation Reduction Act.

The choice for Texas seniors and their loved ones could not be clearer. As one of the largest advocacy organizations for older Americans, we strongly urge voters to reject the anti-senior record of Senator Cruz and elect a true seniors’ champion to the U.S. Senate, Colin Allred.” – Max Richtman, president & CEO, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare
