“Seniors in Georgia and throughout the country have reason to cheer the results of the runoff elections. Voters have sent two true champions for older Americans to the U.S. Senate. We endorsed Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock because they understand seniors’ needs, especially during this time of crisis — and pledged to protect their lifeline social insurance programs, Social Security and Medicare. As part of a new Senate majority, Ossoff and Warnock will fight not only to defend seniors’ earned benefits, but to expand them to meet current needs. The new majority also has an historic opportunity to lower prescription drug prices by passing House legislation allowing Medicare to negotiate directly with Big Pharma. With the two new members from Georgia, the Senate can enact additional COVID relief that seniors so urgently need. Today, we celebrate.
