Leading Seniors’ Advocate Reacts to Barber Victory in AZ Special Election

Max Richtman , President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare, issued the following statement today in response to Ron Barber’s victory in the Arizona special election to fill Rep. Gabrielle Gifford’s congressional seat:

“I congratulate Ron Barber for his victory in Tuesday’s special election. Ron earned the endorsement of the National Committee due to his strong commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare. As poll after poll has shown, Americans do not want these programs cut to pay for a deficit they didn’t create.

This victory also paints a bleak November outlook for those who support cuts and privatization for Social Security and Medicare. Seniors of all political stripes will oppose any politician who would risk their future health and income security or that of their children and grandchildren.”
