On behalf of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare’s millions of members and supporters, I write to endorse the Discounted Drugs for Clinical Trials Act, which amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to grant eligible researchers access to drugs or biologic products for research purposes at a price no higher than the cost to the manufacturer. This legislation builds on the already enacted CREATES Act (as included in the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2020, P.L. 116–94) — which the National Committee supported — to ensure that generic drug manufacturers can afford sample drugs needed to secure approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
We applaud your leadership to bring lower cost generic drugs to market to drive down the exorbitant cost of prescription medication.
