The Honorable Carolyn Maloney
Committee on Oversight and Reform
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Chairperson Maloney:

I am writing on behalf of the millions of members and supporters of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare to endorse H.R. 8015, the “Delivering for America Act”, to prohibit the U.S. Postal Service from implementing changes that would reduce its service reliability and efficiency during the coronavirus pandemic.

Our members, as older Americans, know only too well how urgently this legislation is needed. Many of our members rely on the Post Office for the delivery of prescription drugs to remain healthy and to live their lives with dignity and safety. The Postal Service also serves as an important means of participating in the wider community, with millions of seniors preferring to exercise their right to vote by means of absentee ballots. Especially as the coronavirus is striking older Americans so severely, there is no excuse for tampering with – and possibly severing – this vital lifeline.

The National Committee applauds this legislation for not only preventing further damage to Post Office services caused by ill-timed revisions to its methods of delivery, but for seeking to reverse the critical damage that has already been done by establishing a retroactive date of January 1, 2020.

Our members need to have reliable, timely delivery of their prescription medications before their supplies run out. Our members, and all Americans, need a fully functioning Postal Service whose dedicated workers can carry out their jobs without the hinderance of policies driven by the political considerations of higher management.

H.R. 8015 will help ensure that our neighborhood Post Offices will deliver first class and parcel packages in an efficient and timely manner. Therefore, the National Committee urges the House of Representatives to pass this important and necessary legislation.

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
