The Honorable Debbie Stabenow
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510-2204

Dear Senator Stabenow:

On behalf of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare’s millions of members and supporters, I write to endorse S. 2553, the Know the Lowest Price Act.

Currently, health plans and pharmacy benefits managers (PBMs) can insert gag clauses into their contracts with pharmacists prohibiting them from disclosing to consumers when it costs less to pay out-of-pocket for a drug than it would to use their insurance coverage.  Your bill will prohibit these outrageous contract arrangements between Medicare private plans, PBMs and pharmacies and help seniors save money when they pick up their prescriptions.

Seniors should not have to choose between paying their bills and taking their medication. The National Committee appreciates your leadership in keeping prescription drugs affordable and enabling patients to follow their physician’s prescription drug treatment instructions.

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
President and CEO
