At a time when Iowans are facing rising costs for health care, prescription drugs, and everyday necessities, Josh Turek has made clear that he will fight to protect and strengthen the earned benefits that older Americans depend on.
This Congress has been a disaster for seniors. Republicans stood by as Elon Musk — who has called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” — allowed DOGE to undermine the Social Security Administration and put Americans’ personal data at risk. They also passed the Big, Ugly Bill, which cut $1 trillion from Medicaid and threatens access to care for rural Iowans, people with disabilities, and older adults.
Turek’s opponent, Ashley Hinson, would continue this approach in the Senate — rubber-stamping an anti-senior agenda that shows little regard for Iowans’ health care and retirement security. Iowa’s families cannot afford a senator who supports policies that threaten the earned benefits and affordable care they depend on.
Congress must act before the Social Security Trust Fund runs dry in the early 2030s. Senators elected this year will decide the future of Social Security. Without action, Iowans would face a $504 cut in their monthly Social Security benefits. For seniors living on fixed incomes, a reduced check can force impossible choices between groceries, utility bills, and life-saving medications.
