“Reporting in the Washington Post about further abuse of Americans’ personal data by DOGE, if accurate, fits a pattern of misbehavior at Trump’s Social Security Administration (SSA).

The Post reporting details the latest in a series of serious data breaches on the part of DOGE staff, enabled by an administration apparently more interested in leveraging Americans’ personal data to advance political and personal agendas — rather than serving the public. The reported breaches are a direct consequence of last year’s misguided Supreme Court decision to allow DOGE unfettered access to Americans’ Social Security data.

The mishandling of citizens’ private data undermines public confidence in the Social Security Administration, which more than 70 million Americans rely on to deliver their earned benefits.  This once proud agency – historically one of the most efficient in the federal government – risks being run into the ground because of the Trump administration’s blatant disregard for the principles of good governance.

We share the concerns of Rep. John Larson (D-CT) and Richard Neal (D-MA), who have demanded a full investigation into DOGE mishandling of data – with accountability if wrongdoing is confirmed.– Max Richtman, President and CEO, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare
