“We condemn the GOP House budget resolution as a heartless scheme to rip health coverage from some of our most vulnerable citizens — including seniors, people with disabilities, and modest income earners — all to pay for a tax cut for the wealthiest Americans. You cannot cut up to $880 billion from Medicaid without causing immense harm. Millions of people will be dropped from Medicaid rolls, leaving them without health coverage. Funding for seniors’ long-term care will be slashed. Lower income dual-eligibles could find their access to Medicare threatened if Medicaid assistance for co-pays and deductibles is cut off. People will get sick and die because ideologues in Washington care more about tax cuts for their wealthy donors than the health and well-being of their own constituents. This will hurt people in red and blue states alike. We urge everyone to contact their members of Congress now with a simple message: Hands off Medicaid!” – Max Richtman, President and CEO, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare
