On behalf of the of thousands of Wisconsinites we represent in the Third District, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare PAC is proud to endorse Rebecca Cooke’s campaign for Congress. This week marks the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act becoming law, so it is only fitting that we endorse a candidate who will be a champion for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. A small business owner, nonprofit leader, and waitress, Rebecca understands firsthand how these programs are essential in keeping seniors secure, healthy, and engaged in their communities. In Congress, she will vote not only to protect these programs, but to expand their modest benefits.

Rebecca is the clear choice for seniors, as her opponent, Rep. Derrick Van Orden, has a history of supporting tax cuts for the wealthy at the expense of seniors and working families. Perhaps most shamefully, for months Van Orden loudly promised his constituents that he would not support any legislation that cut Medicaid or SNAP. But he voted for Trump’s Unfair, Ugly bill, which slashed both programs. This legislation will lead to more Wisconsinites becoming sick and going hungry and will worsen the rural hospital crisis.

“Every senior in Western Wisconsin deserves the opportunity to retire with dignity and I will never vote to weaken Social Security or Medicare—these are earned benefits. When Congressman Derrick Van Orden voted for the Republican megabill, he supported massive tax breaks for the ultra-rich that explode the deficit by more than $4 trillion, putting our country’s fiscal health—and the promise of Social Security and Medicare—at risk.” – Rebecca Cooke

WI-03 will be one of the most important races this cycle in determining if a pro-senior majority gets elected to Congress. By electing Rebecca Cooke, voters have the opportunity to send a loud and clear message to Washington: seniors will not stand for any politician who double-crosses them. – Max Richtman, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare-PAC Board
