11/30/2012 8:41 AM   By NCPSSM

One Minute, One Call to Save Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid

The National Committee is joining advocates across the nation in a Congressional Call-In day on Wednesday, December 5th.  Our goal is to flood Congress with calls reminding them that Americans of all ages and political parties do not support cutting middle-class benefits to pay for deficit reduction.  Let’s shutdown the Capitol switchboard with thousands of calls delivering one simple message!

NO CUTS to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid

The threat to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid during this Lame Duck Congress is as serious as any time in these programs’ long and successful histories.  Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid do not belong in this deficit debate and we must urge Congress to take these programs off the table.

Making your call couldn’t be easier.  Just dial NCPSSM’s Legislative Hotline and you’ll be directed to your Congressional leaders from one toll-free number:

NCPSSM CONGRESSIONAL CALL IN DAY

Send our flyer to 5 of your friends and tell them One Minute, One Call can make the difference in the fight to preserve America’s vital retirement and health security programs.

Sorry, but I do reject the general "It's all about/only about the middle class" discussion. The exclusive focus on the middle class has been deeply divisive, and has served powerfully (in a number of ways) to shrink the middle class. There is no way to rebuild the middle class out of thin air. It requires actually lifting people out of deep poverty so they can get back on their feet. Maintaining the US depends on having a large, thriving middle class. While we need to grow the middle class, the "middle class mantra" serves to turn it into a sort of gated community with only an exit gate. Social Security was never intended for the middle class alone (very important, since we're increasingly a bottom wage country).

Not only should Medicare not be cut, benefits should be expanded to include dental, vision, and hearing aids.

I tried to call in and it said there was no connection for my zip code. I live in the country and we have a tiny post office down the road.

I want to say: Do Not Cut Social Security
    Do Not Cut Medicare
    Do Not Cut Medicaid

    Thank You,
    Cherie Thomas

Hello, I'm fighting a disease to stay alive, It's called HIV and there are many of us out there like me. Not to mention other common illnesses that people are living with. It is ridiculous that I have to stress myself out, make my CD4 and Viral Load go hay wire over this Nonsense The Republicans are putting people That are disabled, elderly, or even that have worked most of their lives and paid into Social Security Through worrying about this constant attack on The Middle Class. These are the very people who are the ones that made this country go so far into debt by fighting 2 costly wars. This Country is turning out to Be a Dictatorship runned country with the Right wingers and THEY need to be held accountable! Put the wall street Bankers in Jail, Fire all these Republicans/ senators that want to destroy this country for power and Money. And Lets Bring back America That we all Know and Loved/ Land Of the Free/ Helping the Poor/ allowing our Immigrants to come here for a better life. I don't understand why some organization doesn't get a team of lawyers and sue the US government to pay back the $2.7T owed to Social Security. Hint, hint!!!

I agree very much on this Jim. They should have paid back when they were bailing everyone out.

Since I am deaf, I have to use this format to register my opposition to the cutting of Social Security and Medicare. I spent all of my working life paying into these programs with the expectation of getting benefits when I retired. These programs are NOT entitlements. They were bought and paid for through payroll taxes. Congress is the main blame for why these programs are going broke. They "borrowed" from these programs to finance some other programs that they couldn't find money for. Now, they want to cut my benefits. They should be made to pay back the money they "borrowed" with interest, and leave these programs alone.

Please join me in helping the effort to retain Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid as they are. I depend on both for my continued existence as a disabled person. I can't imagine what on Earth I would do without these programs that I invested in for 35 working years. Please help!
    Love,
    Melissa

I feel that the 1% should not get Social Security, or Medicare, they can afford to learn how the poor get by. The American people have been through so much, the rich can help out for a change. The republicans signed a contract, is the Constitutional? It's so wrong the government and it's citizens are split, mostly for the 99%. They spent a fortune just on the election.
Get something going with the drug companies, they are so wealthy, look at all the ads on TV. The prices they and doctors charge should be regulated by the government, we can buy in Canada. How would they like it if it became a rend. There is a lot of waste right there, we could save.
I guess I could go on and on.

Don't cut our incomes: SS, Medicare and Medicaid. CUT THEIR OWN INCOMES, WE DIDN'T MAKE THE DEFICIT, THEY DID.
