Today, on behalf of our members in Iowa’s Third Congressional District, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare PAC is proud to endorse Lanon Baccam for election to United States House of Representatives. Lanon has proven his commitment to Iowans throughout his lifetime of public service — including a deployment with the Iowa National Guard in Afghanistan — and he will continue to do so in Congress. The road to the majority runs through the heartland, and the National Committee knows that Lanon will be a voice for older Iowans and their families.

Lanon understands the issues facing working Americans. Unlike his opponent, he appreciates that Social Security and Medicare are earned benefits that Iowans have paid for. If elected, Lanon has vowed to protect and enhance these modest benefits and will support commonsense legislation to strengthen both programs. Most crucially, he will never vote to cut Social Security or Medicare.

Lanon will be a huge improvement for Iowa seniors over incumbent Rep. Zach Nunn. Nunn joined the far-right House Republican Study Committee (RSC), which proposes cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid by trillions of dollars — and extending the 2017 Trump tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations. Iowans cannot afford Zach Nunn’s policies impacting their earned benefits.

By supporting Lanon Baccam this November, third district voters have the chance to send a strong message to Washington:  Hands off our Social Security and Medicare benefits! – Max Richtman, President & CEO, National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare
