News Release

Max Richtman, President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare announced long-time Capitol Hill staffer, Julie Tippens, is the National Committee’s new Director of Strategic Partnerships.

“It’s clear that the majority of Americans believe we should be strengthening programs vital to our nation’s economic health like Medicare and Social Security rather than targeting them for cuts.  Now’s the time to bring these voices together to deliver that message to Congress, loudly and clearly.  Julie Tippens brings a long history of political savvy and experience to the National Committee as we seek to build new coalitions and partnerships to bolster our defense of America’s most successful poverty prevention programs.” Max Richtman, NCPSSM President/CEO

Tippens spent much of her career on Capitol Hill, having worked for four members of the House of Representatives.  She moved to Washington to work for her home state Congressman, Ron Wyden and later worked as Executive Director of the House Democratic Caucus under Chairman Vic Fazio (CA) and served as chief of staff to Congressman David Wu (OR) and Colleen Hanabusa (HI).  Off the Hill,  Tippens was legislative director for the National Abortion Rights Action League and was political director of the Women’s Campaign Fund, helping to elect a record number of women to the House and Senate and recruiting and training women candidates to run for public office at all levels.

“This is a great opportunity to help expand the reach of the National Committee and build partnerships with diverse communities who share our concern about the future of these crucial programs and families’ economic security in this country.  We’re at a critical juncture in our American history and it’s vital that Americans of all ages, races, and economic means understand just what is at stake if programs like Social Security and Medicare are cut to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy and an economic crisis these programs did not create.” Julie Tippens, NCPSSM Director of Strategic Partnerships
