News Release

Endorsements by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare PAC helped propel champions of American seniors to victory – and recapture the majority in the House of Representatives.  Of the more than 90 candidates for Congress and statewide offices endorsed by the National Committee PAC, 75 were victorious (with 4 results currently outstanding).  To earn the National Committee’s support, candidates pledged to defend Social Security and Medicare from cuts and to work toward expansion of both programs.

“Tuesday’s results are a true affirmation that voters in red and blue states cherish Social Security and Medicare and want to see these programs boosted, not slashed, as the administration and its allies in Congress have proposed.  The candidates we supported realize that earned benefits are a lifeline that keeps seniors out of poverty, providing crucial financial and health security in retirement.  The newly elected majority in the House will serve as a firewall against any attempts to weaken Social Security and Medicare – including benefit cuts and privatization – while at the same time working to improve both programs and ensure their financial viability for the future,” said Max Richtman, PAC Chair and President and CEO of the National Committee.

Richtman traveled extensively during the summer and fall to campaign with endorsed candidates in Virginia, New Jersey, Montana, Illinois, Arizona, North Dakota, Utah, and Missouri, among other states.  He participated in town hall meetings with voters in red and blue states, and presented Social Security and Medicare champions with the National Committee’s trademark red boxing gloves.  During this election season, Richtman and other National Committee spokespeople also promoted candidates on media outlets across the country.
