    NEWS RELEASE

Presidential Veto Puts Industry Profits Ahead of Seniors' Healthcare

Statement from National Committee President/CEO, Barbara B. Kennelly

"President Bush has made it clear time and again that preserving billions in industry subsidies to private insurers is more important in his overall goal of privatizing Medicare than keeping doctors in the program or providing cost-effective coverage for seniors. Make no mistake about it, Medicare beneficiaries, low-income seniors and their physicians need this legislation. Pay cuts to doctors in Medicare begin today, so there is no time to waste.   Thankfully, the majority in Congress understands the importance of this bill and our members urge the House and Senate to put privatization politics aside and override the President's veto."
