    NEWS RELEASE

Seniors Advocacy Group Applauds Two Key Votes in Senate Health Care Debate

"I commend the members of the Senate for taking a huge step forward in passing meaningful health care reform for Medicare beneficiaries.   America's seniors have been in the crosshairs of a campaign to scare them away from reforms desperately needed to preserve and strengthen Medicare.  Thankfully, the Senate has seen through this misinformation and cast their votes for seniors, not corporate interests.  Support of the Bennet amendment guaranteeing Medicare benefits will not be cut plus the defeat of the McCain amendment that would have stripped Medicare improvements from the bill are two very important victories for Medicare beneficiaries. Strengthening Medicare has been the National Committee's mission since our founding 27 years ago and remains our top priority in this health care debate.  Today's Senate votes take us closer to fulfilling that mission."...Barbara B. Kennelly, President/CEO
