    NEWS RELEASE

New Radio Ads Warn: Middle-class families Will Not Tolerate Cuts to their Social Security

A new round of radio ads, part of the "Hands Off our Social Security Campaign" sponsored by The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM) will begin airing on WTOP radio in Washington on March 29th . At the same time, NCPSSM members and supporters nationwide will participate in a week-long mobilization campaign which includes a National Call-In Day coordinated by Social Security Works .

In the new radio ad "Voices", middle-class Americans of all ages remind Congress that Social Security did not cause the current economic meltdown and benefits should not be cut in the guise of "fiscal responsibility". Social Security has been the one secure income source for millions of retirees, the disabled and their families during this economic crisis and it has not contributed one penny to the deficit.

Social Security events scheduled for the week of March 28th include:

    • Monday News Conference / Rally with Senate Majority Harry Reid, other Senate leaders and Social Security beneficiaries
    • Tuesday Radio campaign begins and National Call-in Day to Congress

    • Wednesday NCPSSM Online Mobilization .   We'll tap into our large and growing communities on Facebook , Twitter and our Blog "Entitled to Know" in a number of ways to keep the pressure on.

    • Thursday A new E - card to be delivered to the Senate "Gang of Six".

    • Friday the National Committee Truth Squad will wrap the week to ensure our Congressional leaders know the facts about Social Security and our fiscal crisis.

The National Committee has a successful track record in protecting the Social Security benefits paid for by American workers and retirees including the fight to defeat President Bush's proposals to privatize Social Security. By engaging and informing America's seniors through similar ad campaigns, member mobilizations and grassroots efforts nationwide,  our members have said, loud and clear, they're ready to fight against those in Washington willing to trade away the nation's most successful government program.
