THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY & MEDICARE October 4, 2011 NEWS RELEASENew Web Video Highlights Washington Disconnect On Social Security & Medicare Voters Are United Against Cutting Vital Benefits The National Committee's new online video is part of the first wave of actions in the newly launched multi-million dollar "Hands Off -No Cuts" campaign - a coast-to-coast effort combining grassroots mobilization, advertising and social media to stop the Congressional Super Committee from proposing cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, programs which are vital to millions of middle-class Americans. The ad highlights a new bipartisan poll that shows 82% of Democrats, 73% of Independents and 58% of Republicans are united in opposition to benefit cuts to reduce the deficit. "This campaign reminds Congressional members that Americans do not support trading away Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits in the name of 'fiscal responsibility'. The vast majority of Americans of all political persuasions do not want to balance the budget by cutting middle-class programs because they know these programs are lifelines to millions still reeling in this economy. They also know targeting our elderly, handicapped and the poor in the name of debt reduction while preserving tax cuts and loopholes for the wealthy is not shared sacrifice by any definition." Max Richtman, NCPSSM President/CEO The National Committee's mobile billboards continue to roll in DC this week promoting the No Cuts message. More than 32,000 calls to Member's offices have been made, campaign activists are holding rallies and meetings at Congressional District offices and community centers and a six-figure radio ad campaign begins next week in Washington.
