National Committee Membership Outreach
Receives Awards
Membership Mailings recognized by Direct Marketing Association
of Washington
The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare is honored
to receive a Silver and Gold MAXI and the "Big Idea" award from the
Direct Marketing Association of Washington, D.C. for two of our 2005-06 membership
mailing projects.
As a result of our May 2005 mailing reporting Washington's latest attempts
to privatize Social Security, more than four thousand National Committee members
responded with donations to our national campaign against Social Security private
accounts. This "High Impact" letter received a silver MAXI in the
Non-profit category.
A Gold MAXI was awarded for our mailing to members which first alerted them
to the President's nationwide campaign to privatize Social Security. Our mailing
emphasized the importance of the issue to our members and the urgency of defeating
private accounts. National Committee members responded and contributed more
than $1.27 million to the fight against Social Security privatization.
The same successful member mailing was also presented the "Big Idea"
award by the Direct Marketing Association of Washington. DMA is the second largest
regional direct marketing association in the nation.
The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare was founded
in 1982 to serve as an advocate for the landmark federal programs of Social
Security and Medicare and for all Americans who seek a healthy, productive and
secure retirement. With 4.6 million members and supporters across America, we
are the nation's second-largest grassroots citizens organization devoted to
the retirement future for all citizens - from our "twenty-something"
generation and baby-boomers to the nation's thirty-four million seniors.
The National Committee, a nonprofit, nonpartisan
organization acts in the interests of its membership through advocacy, education,
services, grassroots efforts and the leadership of the Board of Directors
and professional staff. The work of the National Committee is directed toward
developing better-informed citizens and voters.
