    NEWS RELEASE

National Committee's Health Care Reform "Truth Squad" Releases New Web video Targeting Medicare Advantage Subsidies

Private insurers participating Medicare Advantage plans receive $15 billion a year in overpayments at the same time skyrocketing health care costs are endangering Medicare and the seniors it covers. The latest video release in the National Committee's hard-hitting Truth Squad series describes how health care reform proposals, which trim these outrageous subsidies, are vital to Medicare's future.  You can see "Waste -The Status Quo is Not an Option" on our YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/nationalcommittee .

To counter the scare-tactics used by opponents of health care reform and aimed at seniors, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare mobilized a Truth Squad to give seniors the facts about how health care reform proposals can improve coverage and strengthen the Medicare program. Using a network of grassroots volunteers and on-line communities such as Facebook and YouTube, the campaign has captured the attention of seniors across the country.

    The Truth Squad campaign includes:

    • A multi-part Web Video series dealing with some of the most egregious myths like "death panels"
    • A special health care edition of Secure Retirement which includes comprehensive coverage of health care reform and seniors
    • The Truth Squad Tool Kit for members and supporters

    • Petitions and Letters to Congress:  more than 120,000 letters and petitions have been delivered to Congress from National Committee members and supporters urging passage of health care reform which also strengthens Medicare.
    • An online Legislative Action Center with sample letters that can be emailed directly to Congressional representatives and local newspaper editors.
    • A downloadable Truth Squad badge and logo are available on our website and Facebook page .
