  • Letter to the House Opposing the Repeal of the CLASS Program

    * Please note that this letter is being sent to all House of Representatives

    January 31, 2011

    Dear Representative:

On behalf of the over three million members and supporters of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, I urge you to vote against H.R.1173, legislation which would repeal the CLASS (Community Living Assistance Services and Supports) program.

CLASS is a voluntary program that would provide a cash benefit to people needing care at home, regardless of income or pre-existing conditions.  While CLASS is not perfect, it is an important first step, which can only be improved if it remains in law. For nearly two decades, Congress debated how to resolve these problems before passing the CLASS program in health care reform. CLASS is a promising approach that addresses the costs of long-term services and supports for Americans of all ages.

We urge you to oppose H.R. 1173, the repeal of CLASS.

    Sincerely,

    Max Richtman
