THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE March 5, 2009 NEWS RELEASESeniors Advocacy Group Launches Internet Ad Campaign to Counter Misleading Claims on Entitlement Reform The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare today released the first in a series of internet advertisements aimed at dispelling the myths and challenging misinformation about the future of Social Security and Medicare. Coinciding with the White House Summit on Health Care, the first video urges Washington to keep its focus where it belongs...on health care reform. Anti-entitlement crusaders continue to claim we can't afford Social Security and Medicare. But what isn't heard in this anti-entitlement echo chamber is the fact that even if Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are eliminated entirely, the vast majority of our spending will still go to skyrocketing health care costs. As Budget Director, Peter Orszag has said, "healthcare reform is entitlement reform". The video "Tune Out the Noise" can be viewed on The National Committee's YouTube Channel at http://www.youtube.com/NationalCommittee . The video is also being emailed directly to members of Congress and more than 200,000 National Committee members, volunteers and advocates nationwide.
