THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE July 9, 2008 NEWS RELEASEThe Senate Scores a Victory for Seniors and Their Doctors HR 6331 Stops Medicare Physician's Payment Cuts and Trims Wasteful Insurance Industry Subsidies In addition to preventing the scheduled cuts for Medicare doctors, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (H.R. 6331) will improve access to prevention and mental health services for all beneficiaries, and decrease the cost-sharing burden for low-income seniors who often forgo services because of expense. "Make no mistake about it, Medicare beneficiaries, low income seniors and their physicians need this legislation. However, President Bush has threatened a veto in order to preserve billions in subsidies to private insurers offering Medicare Advantage plans.
