THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE
    ~ 4.6 Million Seniors ~ One Voice ~ No Privatization ~

    November 8, 2006

    NEWS RELEASE

    The Voters have Spoken
They Said "No, Thank you" to Privatization Candidates Nationwide

From Pennsylvania to Florida, voters have cast their ballots to "privatize" Congressional incumbents who've supported the President's plan to divert billions from Social Security to create risky private accounts.

"Americans were clearly ready for a change. While many different issues drove voters to the polls yesterday, chief among them is the President's continuing plans to push the privatization of Social Security. Once again Americans have voiced their opposition to private accounts by casting votes against the President's key privatization supporters"…Barbara B. Kennelly, President/CEO

The National Committee and its 4.6 million members and supporters understand that privatization does nothing to improve the program's long-term solvency. We support a true bi-partisan effort to strengthen Social Security but that can't happen until the polarizing and politicizing issue of private accounts is off the table.
