THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL
SECURITY AND MEDICARE November 8, 2006 NEWS RELEASE
"Americans were clearly ready for a change. While many different issues drove voters to the polls yesterday, chief among them is the President's continuing plans to push the privatization of Social Security. Once again Americans have voiced their opposition to private accounts by casting votes against the President's key privatization supporters" Barbara B. Kennelly, President/CEO The National Committee and its 4.6 million members and supporters understand that privatization does nothing to improve the program's long-term solvency. We support a true bi-partisan effort to strengthen Social Security but that can't happen until the polarizing and politicizing issue of private accounts is off the table. For current perspectives on the privatization of Social Security, go to http://www.ncpssm.org/socialsecurity/. The National Committee is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that acts in the interests of its membership through advocacy, education, services, grassroots efforts and the leadership of the board of directors and professional staff. The work of the National Committee is directed toward developing a secure retirement for all Americans. |
