    NEWS RELEASE

Dan Adcock Named Policy Director for National Seniors' Advocacy Group

Decades of aging policy leadership will advance organization's influence on Capitol Hill

Max Richtman, President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare today announced Dan Adcock, former Legislative Director at the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), will be the new Director of the National Committee's Government Relations and Policy Department.  Adcock assumes his new role at the National Committee on November 7th .

"Medicare and even Social Security benefits are being targeted by members of Congress who want to reduce the deficit by cutting these middle-class programs. The fight to preserve these programs has never been more important, which is why the National Committee is thrilled to welcome our new Government Relations and Policy Director, Dan Adcock. Dan is a veteran seniors' advocate and policy expert deeply skilled in both the legislative and executive branches of government. He's well-respected throughout Washington and brings a wealth of experience to our ongoing battle to protect programs that protect American families." Max Richtman, NCPSSM President/CEO

In addition to directing NARFE's legislative team since 2008, Adcock also managed their Political Action Committee, grass-roots advocacy, a biennial legislative training conference, all departmental communications (including media relations in which Adcock was NARFE's chief public policy spokesperson) and publications.

During Adcock's 18-year tenure at NARFE, there were no legislated reductions in federal civilian retirement and health benefits. He helped to write, promote and enact NARFE led-legislation in September 2000 to create the Federal Long-Term Care Insurance Program.  He also managed the implementation, operation, and fundraising for a successful campaign that addressed the unrelenting attacks on federal employees and retirees in the media and the anticipated proposals to substantially cut retirement, pay and health benefits.  It has reframed the debate and inserted positive messaging into the media coverage and energized and empowered NARFE members to influence Congress.

"Since the beginning of my career as a congressional staffer more than 25 years ago, I have committed myself to helping mature and older Americans enjoy independent, dignified and satisfying lives.  That is why I am excited about leading NCPSSM's Government Relations and Policy team -- particularly when older people are fighting the greatest threat in a generation to their earned financial and health security." Daniel Adcock, NCPSSM Government Relations and Policy Director
