    NEWS RELEASE

As Super Committee Targets Middle-Class Benefits,
National Seniors Group launches 2nd TV Ad
to Protect Social Security and Medicare from Cuts

The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare’s “Hands Off-No Cuts” campaign unveils its second television ad airing in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia markets beginning on Wednesday, November 2nd.  The “I Have a Voice” ad, part of a two-million dollar campaign, will appear on major cable and broadcast networks including NBC, CBS, Fox, MSNBC and CNN. Featuring young and old individuals from different walks of life, the ad tells Congress that whether we’re Republican, Democrat or Independent, “one thing we all agree on is Hands Off, No Cuts to Social Security and Medicare.”

“This ad reminds Washington’s leaders of the vital role Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid play in the lives of middle-class Americans already suffering in this tough economy.  The bottom line is the vast majority of Americans, of all ages and political parties do not support cutting these programs in the name of deficit reduction. And even though Social Security does not contribute to the deficit some members of the Super Committee appear ready to cut benefits to average Americans while leaving tax cuts for the wealthy untouched.  This ad tells Congress that millions of hard-working Americans will be impacted over generations by the choices made over the next few weeks—people aren’t line-items, they’re not bargaining chips and their benefits shouldn’t be used to pay for a deficit they didn’t create.” Max Richtman, Executive Vice President/Acting CEO

    The National Committee’s
“Hands Off –No Cuts Campaign” continues to organize and inform Americans about the Congressional Deficit Super Committee and proposals to cut middle-class benefits. Other elements of the “Hands Off-No Cuts” campaign include:

    ·        Congressional District Radio Ads in targeted markets will bring the Hands Off-No Cuts message directly to voters and their elected leaders across the nation starting next week.

    ·        Mobile Billboards. The National Committee’s mobile billboards have been rolling throughout Washington, D. C. promoting the No Cuts message over every mile of official Washington—from Capitol Hill to the White House and beyond—with a high visibility message that can’t be ignored.

    ·        Phone Calls. Call-in campaigns to Congress have already generated more than 50,000 calls to Member’s offices and will continue to flood the Capitol this month.

    ·        Grassroots Campaign. Activists are holding rallies and meetings at Congressional District offices, community centers and other public venues. Grassroots volunteers have organized nearly 100 events nationwide and are meeting with their congressional members one-on-one reminding them that cutting benefits to middle-class Americans is not fiscal responsibility.

    ·        Online Mobilization.  Activists in our Facebook and Twitter communities continue to reach out to their Congressional Members online sending emails, tweets and Facebook messages.
