The “CHAMP” Act is the Right Prescription for Medicare
House Legislation includes reforms to stop privatization
“By improving the Medicare program for seniors and, at the same time, providing health insurance for more uninsured children, the CHAMP legislation finally puts America's healthcare focus back where it should be…on American families.” Barbara B. Kennelly, President/CEO
The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, representing 4 million members and supporters nationwide, applauds the introduction of legislation to reauthorize and improve the State Children's Health Insurance program while also making desperately needed reforms to the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, including the elimination of Medicare Advantage subsidies to private insurers.
National Committee members have mobilized to let Congress know how important their votes on this legislation are to seniors and their families. Next week, more than 73,000 letters from National Committee members and supporters will be delivered to Congress urging the repeal of these private Medical Advantage overpayments. National Committee members have placed hundreds of phone calls to their Representatives in support of these Medicare reforms.
“Seniors want sound healthcare options, not just for themselves but for their children and grandchildren too. The National Committee supports the Medicare reforms included in the House bill and we will work hard over the coming weeks to ensure its passage”…Barbara B. Kennelly, President/CEO
The National Committees commends Way & Means Committee Chairman Rep. Charles Rangel, Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. John Dingell, Health Subcommittee Chairmen Rep. Pete Stark and Rep. Frank Pallone for making a necessary and significant investment in the Medicare program that will positively impact millions of beneficiaries.
