The Truth Squad: Busting Myths on Social Security and Medicare

  • THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE
~ Celebrating 25 Years of Advocacy for Older Americans ~

    November 5, 2008

    NEWS RELEASE

National Seniors Advocate, Barbara B. Kennelly, Statement on the Election of Barack Obama as President

Barbara B. Kennelly, President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, issued the following statement to NCPSSM members and supporters:

"The challenges facing President-elect Obama and the new Congress are immense; however, I am hopeful the nation's overwhelming support for a new direction in Washington will embolden leaders to look beyond the failed Social Security and Medicare privatization politics of the past eight years.  The National Committee and its millions of members and supporters nationwide look forward to working with Congress and the President on healthcare reform, drug price negotiation in Medicare, the elimination of wasteful subsidies to private Medicare programs and the strengthening of Social Security for future generations.  America's seniors, the disabled, survivors and their families know there is much to do as we correct course in Washington .  Preserving and strengthening the nation's safety net programs, especially during these difficult economic times, must be a priority".
