THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE
    ~ 4 Million Seniors ~ One Voice ~No Privatization ~

    July 31, 2007

    NEWS RELEASE

Senior Advocates Converge on Capitol Hill to Tell Congress Vote for Children and Seniors

Volunteers from the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare will fan out in the Cannon, Rayburn and Longworth House Office Buildings on Wednesday August 1 st , to deliver hundreds of pill boxes imprinted with the message “The CHAMP Act is the Right Prescription for Medicare” to urge every member of the House to support HR 3162.

The Children's Health and Medicare Protection (CHAMP) Act reauthorizes the children's health insurance program, SCHIP, while also making desperately needed reforms to the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003.  By phasing out billions in insurer subsidies and improving access to healthcare for seniors, the CHAMP Act puts Congress' healthcare focus back where it should be, on American families not industry profits.

National Committee members have mobilized to let Congress know how important their votes on this legislation are to seniors and their families.  Already, more than 73,000 blue letters from National Committee members and supporters have been delivered to Congress urging the repeal of private Medicare Advantage overpayments and National Committee members have placed hundreds of phone calls to their Representatives in support of these Medicare reforms.

For more information on the Capitol Hill delivery schedule or to arrange interviews with National Committee volunteers, please contact: Pamela Causey, Communications Director at (202) 236-2123.
