  • THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE
~ Protecting the Health and Economic Future of Older Americans ~

    January 25, 2011

    NEWS RELEASE

    State of the Union Reaction

"I applaud President Obama for making job creation, and expansion of our economy key goals for his administration this year. I also applaud the President for his call to strengthen Social Security while protecting both current retirees and future generations.

Poll after poll has shown the American people, of all ages and political persuasions, support Social Security and its promise to our nation's retirees, disabled, survivors and their families. The President has shown us tonight he understands draconian proposals such as those by the Deficit Commission are not the way to provide long-term solvency for Social Security.

The National Committee stands ready to work with the President and anyone else working on strengthening Social Security who will ensure that full benefits will be paid to all hard-working Americans, now and for generations to come.

The President is right, working Americans still want the American dream of economic security. Social Security is a vital part of that dream." Barbara B. Kennelly, President and CEO, NCPSSM
