    National Advocate Honored for Service to Seniors
    Former Congresswoman Barbara Kennelly Receives
    2007 American Society on Aging Award

    The nation's two largest professional associations in aging -- The American Society on Aging (ASA) and the National Council on Aging (NCOA) - will host more than four thousand aging services providers and professionals at this year's March 7 th -10 th national conference themed "Let's Rethink Aging".

    Ms. Kennelly will receive the ASA award during the Opening General Session at 8:00am-10:00am Wednesday, March 7th and then present a special lecture with NCPSSM board member Dr. Carroll Estes , PhD entitled:  "The Politics of Social Security and Medicare Privatization".  Kennelly says,

    "We must ensure senior safety net programs like Social Security and Medicare are not dismantled in the name of ‘reform'; especially now, as more Americans retire and will depend on them.  Our goal should be strengthening these vital programs rather than destroying them through privatization."
