America's “Leaders in Aging” Announced Winners to be honored in Washington, D.C. ceremony
The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare is honored to recognize six of the nation's most committed volunteers, caregivers and programs focused on aging issues and providing services to the elderly. Following are the 2006 “Leaders in Aging” Awards winners:
- Lifetime Achievement Awards:
Dr. Carroll Estes; University of San Francisco, CA | Lou Glasse; Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
- Distinguished Senior Award: Murray Stein; Allen, TX
- Service to Seniors Award-Individual: Amanda Jones; Evanston Police Department, Evanston, IL
- Service to Seniors Award-Program: Palliative Care & Bereavement Program; Van Nuys, CA
- Service to Seniors Award-Organization: Thanks Mom & Dad Fund; Atlanta, GA
There are also 4 distinguished Honorable Mention award winners:
- Service to Seniors Award-Individual: Ellen Greenberg; Rockville, MD
- Service to Seniors Award-Individual: Betty Kildahl; Paris, TX
- Service to Seniors Award-Program: MiCAFE; Lansing, MI
- Service to Seniors Award-Program: Medicare Prescription Drug Outreach Campaign; Towson, MD
Each year during Older Americans Month, the National Committee honors individuals, programs and organizations which have served America 's elderly in extraordinary or innovative ways. Leaders in Aging winners will receive a $500 grant and an expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. to participate in the Salute to Leaders awards program on May 22, 2006 in the Canon HOB Room 121 from 1:00-3:00pm.
The National Committee, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization acts in the interests of its membership through advocacy, education, services, grassroots efforts and the leadership of the Board of Directors and professional staff. The work of the National Committee is directed toward developing better-informed citizens and voters.
