THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO PRESERVE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE January 27, 2006
The National Committee Rolls Out New Ad Against Privatization on the Eve of the 2006 State of the Union AddressIn a preemptive strike aimed at discouraging new attempts at privatizing Social Security, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare has taken out a full page ad in USA Today with a message to the President. The ad can be viewed here. Scheduled to run on Monday, January 30, the day before the President's sixth state of the union address, the National Committee's 4.6 million members and supporters are asking the President to accept once and for all, that the American people will not support Social Security private accounts. "Even though the majority of Americans do not support private accounts the President still says he'll continue to push for changes which would dismantle this vital program. The National Committee and its millions of members and supporters say enough is enough" said Barbara B. Kennelly, President and CEO of the National Committee. The President put Social Security at the top of his domestic agenda in his State of the Union address last year. Since then, the National Committee has attended town hall meetings, launched national radio and print ad campaigns and spearheaded grassroots efforts nationwide to defeat all attempts to privatize Social Security. "It's time for the President to move beyond private accounts and work with Congress on strengthening Social Security. This race to privatize our federal safety net programs is more about politics than policy and our nation's seniors deserve better." The National Committee, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization acts in the interests of its membership through advocacy, education, services, grassroots efforts and the leadership of the Board of Directors and professional staff. The work of the National Committee is directed toward developing better-informed citizens and voters. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
