Rural America has a large stake in Social Security debate

NCPSSM releases National Rural Survey Results on June 23, 2005 at 3:00 P.M.

Rural communities depend on Social Security nearly twice as much as non-rural communities, they have a higher percentage of senior citizens and more senior women and people with disabilities who receive Social Security.  Rural residents have a lot at stake in this Social Security debate and have strong opinions about the program's future and its impact on their communities.

800 rural residents were surveyed June 10-15, 2005 for their views on various Social Security proposals currently being considered on Capitol Hill. Former Congresswoman and NCPSSM President, Barbara Kennelly , members of the Congressional Rural Caucus and Peter D. Hart Research Associates, will release survey results and answer questions at a Capitol Hill news conference.

When:  Thursday, June 23 3:00 pm
    Where:  U.S. Capitol: Room HC-9
Participants: Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), Congressman Bob Etheridge (D-NC), Guy Molyneux, Senior Vice President, Hart Research,  Barbara B. Kennelly, President/CEO, The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare
