~ 4 Million Seniors ~ One Voice ~No Privatization ~
President/CEO, Barbara Kennelly, assumes chairmanship of the
Leadership Council of Aging Organizations
“ We stand at a major crossroads in the history of our nation's social insurance and aging programs. Millions of Americans have relied on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other critical aging services for decades. It's our challenge as senior advocates to guarantee Congress and the White House do not turn back the clock on America's senior programs”
- - Barbara B. Kennelly
The 53 senior advocacy groups that comprise the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations have spent decades educating and advocating on behalf of the nation's senior citizens. From Social Security to long-term care issues, the LCAO has been a leading voice in the debate on how best to serve America 's senior population—current and future.
AARP CEO, Bill Novelli, has passed the chairman's gavel for the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations to Barbara Kennelly , President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. Kennelly is a former Congresswoman and ranking member on the House Ways and Means subcommittee on Social Security. She was also a Social Security Administration counselor during the Clinton Administration.
Kennelly pledges the fight against Social Security privatization will be a top LCAO priority in coming months. The LCAO will also continue to be a strong voice on a number of other critical issues; including, implementation of the new Medicare prescription drug program, Medicaid's funding and the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act.
“The LCAO is organized and energized on behalf of America 's seniors. We must ensure America 's social insurance safety net will remain strong and secure for today's retirees and future generations to come.” - -Barbara B. Kennelly
