Norm Bungard Wins National Award
Washington , D.C. — Norm Bungard of St. Petersburg , FL., has won the 2005 Distinguished National Committee Volunteer Award presented by the Washington-based senior advocacy group National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
The Distinguished National Committee Volunteer Award honors older individuals who, on behalf of the National Committee, provide dedicated and generous service to the community. The award is part of the National Committee's annual Salute to Leaders in Aging program, which recognizes individuals and organizations for outstanding service to seniors and their families.
Mr. Bungard retired from the Social Security Administration after 34 years of employment and immediately started his volunteer service with the National Committee as an Area Representative. His volunteer work involves leading workshops, participating in debates, and lobbying Members of Congress. He is credited with the capacity to make difficult subjects interesting, understandable, and enjoyable.
“Norm is indeed a role model for all of us,” says Barbara Kennelly, President and CEO of the National Committee. “We are proud to count him as one of our own, and we are amazed at the amount of time he gives to us since that same amount of time is given to other good causes too.”
The award ceremony will take place May 9, 2005 in Washington , D.C. , as part of the National Committee's celebration of Older Americans Month.
The National Committee, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization acts in the interests of its membership through advocacy, education, services, grassroots efforts and the leadership of the Board of Directors and professional staff.
